The Trinidad and Tobago Solid Waste Management Company Limited (SWMCOL) submitted an application for a Certificate of Environmental Clearance (CEC) to the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) for the establishment of a new municipal solid waste disposal facility on 75 hectares of land at Kangawood Road, Forres Park, Claxton Bay. The EMA determined that an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was required in accordance with the CEC (Designated Activities) Order (as amended). In that regard, SWMCOL engaged consulting firm, Ecoengineering Consultants Limited to conduct the EIA over a period of thirteen (13) months commencing March 2024.

An Introductory Public Meeting is being held on May 21st, 2024, in accordance with the requirements of the EMA.  The purpose of the Introductory Public Meeting is to present information about the proposed new municipal solid waste disposal facility; to give details about the EIA study; and to receive comments from the public.
