Launched in February 2013, the CYOP targets all educational institutions across the country spreading the messages of proper waste management, recycling, anti-littering, and climate change.
Participation at school and public exhibitions form part of the deliverables under the CYOP, in addition to outreach at public and private sector organizations, and within communities targeted by the Municipal Curbside Recycling Programme.
The onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020 called for a new CYOP approach to continue our outreach to students. The programme was therefore modified for delivery through online meeting apps with the ability to reach students, parents, and teachers in their homes. The lessons are tied to the school curriculum and have received considerable acclaim from school principals and teachers. SWMCOL subsequently delivers tokens of appreciation to schools that have participated in the online CYOP, including our Island Eco-Trip board games to help with lesson reinforcement.

In keeping with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 11 – Build a Culture of Environmental Awareness among the Public – SWMCOL will be partnering with and empowering communities to implement projects that focus on eco-sensitivity and eco-sustainability, such as composting and garden projects, the establishment of green spaces, and the expansion of community-based waste reduction and recycling programmes.
As stewards of the environment, we educate customers, communities, and the public about managing waste responsibly. Through our online presence and our educational forums, we share helpful information on recycling right, preventing litter, and conserving our beautiful island environment.
