SWMCOL established the Schools Wastewater Unit in January 2008 in order to undertake projects geared to repairing, upgrading and maintaining sewerage systems at primary and secondary schools as well as the Early Childhood Care and Education Centers.

The primary objectives of this unit are to maintain a safe and healthy environment within the school system and to reduce or eliminate school closures due to malfunctioning sewerage systems. In so doing the unit works closely with the EFCL in providing these services throughout Trinidad and Tobago.

Upon the instruction from EPCL, SWMCOL’s field staff first visits and assesses the problem in the schools. Upon identification of the problem areas, the company mobilizes the required resources to repair and service the schools.

SWMCOL Commercial Waste Water Services Unit is currently engaged in managing the sewerage treatment plants of Tetron. It also undertakes repair services where necessary.

The scope of works carried out includes;

  • Plumbing, mechanical and electrical works;
  • Sampling, testing and analysis of wastewater; and
  • Daily plant operations and monitoring, including emergency response.
